Art has been a part of my life from a very young age. When I turned 9 years old my parents gave me my first easel and a beautiful wooden art case with all the supplies. As a child I started out with water colors and acrylics. But I fell in love with oil paint during a course I took in Rome, where we lived for 3 years. I use subdued tones and values and get my inspiration from nature, art galleries and antique markets. One of my favorite painters of all times is the Danish painter Vilhelm Hammershøi. I fell in love with his serene style of painting and his use of color and light after I saw an exhibition of his work at the Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen, where we lived at the time. His work has been and still is a great inspiration to me. Being Dutch myself, I have also developed a soft spot for Dutch landscape painting and for the way Old Dutch Masters, like Rembrandt, Fabritius, and Vermeer, use strong contrasts in light and shade (chiaroscuro) in their art work.
