ABOUT LEONTIEN
Ever since childhood, I have loved drawing and painting. During a painting course in Rome, where I lived for several years, I developed a deep love for oil paint.
Light plays an important role in my work. In Copenhagen, I discovered the paintings of the Danish artist Vilhelm Hammershøi and was deeply moved by the way he captured light on canvas.
I find my inspiration mainly in nature and the landscape. In my recent works, rhythm, layering, and contrasts between light and dark form the foundation for figurative images with a more abstract visual language.

My paintings are characterized by a sense of stillness and quietness. I work with a limited palette, mainly consisting of muted tones, and I am continuously searching for compelling compositions and contrasts.
Research and experimentation have become central to my working process and guide the way I observe, construct, and reduce my images.
I am currently attending the five-year Painting program at Academie Arendonk to further develop my craftsmanship and artistic voice.
